This time last year, I was having a whale of a time in New York. Sigh.
It was also the time that my boyfriend became my actual fiance (yey!). We haven’t actually got as far as committing to an actual wedding venue yet (how are you meant to pick?!), but last April was a VERY exciting time. This has been a very lovely, relaxing April, but hasn’t quite captured the excitement. But you know what is exciting? Cocktails!!
I think three things contributed to this post:
1) I’m pining for last years holiday
2) I’m about to get serious about my Superhuman Games training and giving up (most) alcohol for the next couple of months
3) I’ve developed an uncharacteristic fondness for whisky in any format in the last few weeks
So, I tried a new cocktail. You guessed it, the short, citrusy and pretty potent New Yorker.
1 measure Scotch whisky
1 teaspoon lime juice
1 teaspoon icing sugar
finely grated lemon rind
lemon rind spiral
Add the ice, whisky, lime juice and sugar to a cocktail shaker and shake, shake, shake until the outside of the shaker gets frosty. Then pour into a martini glass, sprinkle a little lemon rind over the surface and lemon rind to the rim. Sip New Yorker, whilst staring wistfully out the window thinking about New Yorky things.
